Tyler Bray Suffers Non-Football Related ACL Tear

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Tyler Bray suffered a torn ACL in his left knee shortly after the conclusion of the NFL season.

According to a statement from the Chiefs, Bray suffered the injury in a “home accident”.

Saying that Bray’s injury happened at home is just a broad way of saying it wasn’t football related.

The former Vol signal caller was already teetering on the edge of Kansas City’s roster. Bray went undrafted in 2013, after foregoing his final year of eligibility at Tennessee, and spent the 2013 season on the Chiefs’ practice squad.

Bray spent this past season on I.R., after suffering a high ankle sprain in Kansas City’s final pre-season game.

This latest injury is obviously a big setback for Bray. He has a ton of upside and is regarded by some folks as the most talented quarterback on the Chiefs’ roster.

There’s obviously reason for the Chiefs to hold on to Bray. This is his first significant injury since making the leap to the NFL (placing Bray on I.R. this past season was basically a way for the Chiefs to stash him for a year).

Bray’s ACL tear could’ve been a freak accident. All we know is that the injury occurred “at home”.

(FWIW here’s a photo from Instagram of Bray bowling three weeks ago, shortly after the Chiefs concluded their season…..I’m not saying this is how Bray tore his ACL, I’m just saying it’s possible.)

Bray has too much talent to just cast aside after an ACL injury. The NFL is a quarterback driven league and quarterbacks are at a premium.

Bray probably isn’t going to be the next Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but he’s certainly worth keeping around…..just in case.
