Fox Sports Ranks Top NFL QB’s Of All-Time; Peyton Manning In Top Five
By Zach Ragan
Here’s the thing about ranking the greatest players of all time at a certain position — not everyone is going to agree.
Especially when you’re talking NFL quarterbacks.
There could be a case made for a number of NFL quarterbacks — past and present — to be labeled as the greatest of all time.
Arguments could be made for Dan Marino, Johnny Unitas, Joe Montana, Brett Favre and so on.
The talk these days is usually centered around two of the all-time greats that are still playing — Tom Brady and former Tennessee Volunteer Peyton Manning.
Manning will probably go down as the greatest cerebral quarterback to ever play the game (Sorry Johnny Unitas). However, if you took a survey of NFL fans, you’d probably find that most would prefer Tom Brady when the game is on the line.

Brady has four Super Bowls to his name and has proven to be the greatest playoff quarterback of all time.
Manning, who has one Super Bowl title to his name, might have the records (most career touchdown passes, most touchdown passes in a season, most passing yards in a season, etc), but his relative lack of success in the playoffs keeps him from being universally accepted as the best quarterback to ever take the field.
But Manning is still considered among the best to EVER play the game. Fox Sports, as a matter of fact, recently ranked Manning as the third best quarterback of all time, just behind Joe Montana (number two on the list) and the aforementioned Brady (first on the list).
Fox Sports specifically cited Manning’s record numbers as a reason for his high ranking, while mentioning his poor playoff record as the reason for him not being higher on the list.
Some fans, especially UT fans, will probably view this ranking as a slight to Manning. But it shouldn’t be.
Manning is undoubtedly one of the greatest players (not just quarterback) to play in the NFL. To be mentioned as the third best to ever play football’s most prestigious position is an incredible feat.
All rankings of players are subjective, but I think Fox Sports is pretty spot on when it comes to this list.
What do you think? Did they get it right? Should Manning be higher?
