Peyton Manning Returning To Denver Broncos For 2015 Season

Peyton Williams Manning, a soon-to-be 39 year old quarterback who is one year removed from throwing 55 touchdown passes and 5,477 yards in a single season (both NFL records), will officially return to the Denver Broncos in 2015.

On Thursday, Manning passed his physical and signed a contract that reduces his base pay to $15 million next season (he can earn the other $4 million back in incentives).

A lot of folks speculated that Manning might be done after fading down the stretch last season.

Manning, however, actually played through a quad injury the final month of the NFL season, which almost certainly was the culprit for his poor play to finish the season (though father time is/was a factor as well).

There’s no doubt that Manning, who could be gearing up to play his final season, is nowhere close to the quarterback he was in 2006 when he led the Colts to victory in the Super Bowl.

But there’s also little doubt that Manning, even at his age and after significant neck surgeries, is still a better option than the majority of quarterback in the NFL.

Also worth noting:

The announcement of Manning’s return on Thursday, ironically, comes 18 years to the day after he announced he was returning to Tennessee for his senior season. (H/T Jason Yellin)
