Former Tennessee Volunteer football defensive end/linebacker Ovince Saint Preux is set for another fight in the UFC octagon.
Saint Preux is prepared to take on 15th ranked Patrick “Durkin” Cummins on Fox 15 on April 18. His opponent comes in with a 7-1-0 record after winning his last three fights. Preux strides in to the fight with a 17-6-0 record, and ranked eighth in the Light Heavyweight division.
Saint Preux is quite frankly not remembered for his terrific play on the field in Knoxville. He never found a set position during his time in orange. He switched from linebacker to defensive end in 2002 and switched back to linebacker in 2003. His career was spent as a backup, but in Vol country we do not forget our own.
As some Vol fans know, Preux has been fighting mixed martial arts since 2009. After 2014, it became something that everyone knew.
His popularity exploded in the national spotlight after he defeated UFC legend, Mauricio “Shogun” Rau. In surprising fashion for UFC Fight Night 56 last November, it took a thundering left hook to knock out Shogun.
The fight lasted 34 seconds and Shogun landed only one hit. That fight put the VFL on the map, and made him respectable in the UFC.
VFL Saint Preux heads into Saturday with tremendous momentum, and it will be interesting to see if he can take down Cummins in less than 34 seconds.
