Tennessee’s rushing attack in 2015 will be one of the best in the SEC and that’s in large part due to the addition of JuCo running back Alvin Kamara.
The Vols signed Kamara out of Hutchinson Community College. The Georgia native originally signed to play at Alabama in 2013.
Kamara, who has three years of eligibility remaining, will team with sophomore running back Jalen Hurd to give Tennessee the potent rushing game the program has lacked over the past several seasons.
Sporting News considers Kamara one of their top breakout candidates in 2015. Here’s what they had to say about the Vols’ newest running back.
From Sporting News:
"Kamara transferred from Alabama to Hutchinson Community College in 2014, but he’s back in the SEC and he scored a TD in Tennessee’s spring game. Kamara provides a change-of-pace for Jalen Hurd. Kamara gives the Volunteers a dangerous 1-2 punch in the backfield."
They are right that Kamara gives Tennessee a dangerous one-two punch in the backfield. There’s no debate about that.
But I don’t think Kamara is just a change-of-pace back to Jalen Hurd. Kamara could easily be the star running back on the team.
Hurd and Kamara bring different elements to the offense, but both of them are extremely talented. It’s hard to call either one of them the “one” or the “two” because of their talent. Though I suppose Hurd does get the nod, simply because he’s been in the program longer.
Regardless of how you want to label Hurd and Kamara, one thing is for sure — they’re going to be fun to watch in 2015.
And I don’t think it’s a question of “if” Kamara breaks out, but “when” he breaks out.
