Former Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Justin Hunter was arrested last week for felony assault, as he allegedly broke a man’s jaw and knocked out a tooth.
The Tennessee Titans wide receiver has an extremely clean past, which makes the arrest a bit of a surprise.
Hunter’s clean record could help him avoid a lengthy suspension. According to Pro Football Talk, the case is “under review” by the NFL.
PFT also reported that an NFL spokesperson said that no outcomes can be speculated on at the moment.
The Titans expect Hunter to report to training camp as planned.
While it’s good news for Hunter that the NFL is waiting to hand down discipline, it’s still very likely that Hunter ends up serving a suspension.
The former Vol allegedly started the fight in a Virginia Beach bar. If that ends up indeed being the case, I would be shocked if Hunter avoided suspension.
Hunter was charged with malicious wounding which carries a possible sentence of 5-20 years in prison.
