Sep 13, 2015; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten (82) scores the game winning touchdown as New York Giants linebacker Uani

player. 123.
Was there any question about this one Sunday? As he is now in his 13th year in the NFL, Jason Witten showed that he is still arguably the best tight end in the league and came through for Tony Romo when Romo needed him most. A huge leader of the Dallas Cowboys who is already reliable, Witten simply did what Witten does late in the game.

The veteran tight end blocked all night and then had eight receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns. The best, though, and what shows he is a true winner, is when he came through for the Cowboys.

Down 23-13 in the fourth quarter, Witten and Romo began to turn it on. After the New York Giants scored that touchdown for the 10-point lead, Witten caught a pass for 15 yards and then later finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown reception.

Then the Cowboys got the ball back with 1:34 and no timeouts on their own 20-yard line after a Giants field goal. Romo connected with Witten for a 13-yard pass and then an 11-yard touchdown pass for the game-winning score with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. So 40 of Witten’s 60 yards and both of his touchdowns came in the final six minutes of the game with the Cowboys needing somebody to step up.

Even more impressive is that Witten stepped up right when he was called on because Dez Bryant went out. With Bryant out, teams should have an easier time keying in on Witten, but it did not matter. Defenders bounced off of him and he did exactly what he is always called upon to do as the team player and leader of this team.W

Witten was not just the star for the Vols this past weekend. He was one of the stars of the league coming through right when he needed to.

And for that he is the top former Vol to perform well during the NFL Week 1 games.
. Tight End. Dallas Cowboys. Jason Witten. 1
