Tennessee football has an extensive history of great players. Here is the all-time depth chart made up of the best Volunteers to ever play for the school.

With 72 All-Americans and more than 100 players to put on an NFL uniform, compiling the all-time Tennessee Vols football depth chart can be very complicated.

The number of great players at so many position makes it very hard to cut people out. But if you do a depth chart, you have to make decisions like that.

As we look at the all-time Tennessee football team, there was a number of criteria used to determine the best possible depth chart, assuming everybody on the depth chart was 20 years old.

A little bit of preference is given to players who have played in a more recent era because, let’s be honest, the competition over the past 50 years has been much tougher than it was beforehand, and the talent has improved dramatically.

But outside of that, individual stats, roles in team success, individual awards, and NFL success were all factors in determining the best players at every position to put on a Tennessee uniform.

Even then, it was still extremely hard to narrow players down to put together the best Tennessee depth chart.

As we broke down the depth chart, we put in two players for every position with the addition of one slot receiver and one fullback.

Given Tennessee’s history, the hardest positions to narrow down were running back, wide receiver, guard, and defensive back.

But we did the best we could, and some of these players were clear-cut the best in school history. Here is the all-time Tennessee football depth chart.
