After suffering through a week of bad news, Tennessee football recruiting got a major lift Wednesday with two pickups. And the Wednesday night pickup was a splash one for the Vols.

Following the morning commitment of Alabama linebacker Matthew Flint, Butch Jones got another commitment from 2018 Georgia defensive back Trey Dean.

Dean selected the Vols over elite programs like the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs, his home-state team. He announced his commitment to the Tennessee football program on Twitter Wednesday.

A four-star on Rivals, Dean comes out of Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Ga. At 6’2″ and 180 pounds, he is listed as a safety on Rivals.

Dean is the No. 14 ranked player at his position nationally and the No. 18 ranked player in the state of Georgia. Overall, he is the No. 174 ranked player nationally.

Here is a look at his highlight reel.

As you can see with his highlights, he’s definitely cut out to be more of a safety than a cornerback. Dean loves to play soft and collapse on the ball, and he’s not afraid to lay some serious hits on people.

With five seniors in the secondary this year, it’s clear that Tennessee football needs help there for the future. And Butch Jones has done a good job stocking the cupboard.

Dean is the second safety and fourth defensive back committed to this class. He is the 20th commitment overall for the 2018 Tennessee football recruiting class.
