As if the week couldn’t get rougher for Butch Jones, College GameDay piled on by questioning if he’s lost his team. The crew questioned the Tennessee football coach’s control over his unit after a series of incidents.
It’s bad enough that Jones is getting criticism for not being able to win on the field. But when a coach struggles to keep his team off the field, it looks even worse.
As of right now, that seems to be the case according to the GameDay crew. Desmond Howard, Rece Davis, David Pollack and even Lee Corso chimed in on the matter.
Take a look at it here.
Honestly, it’s hard not to agree with them. From Shy Tuttle‘s questionable injury to Marquez Callaway liking a negative tweet about Jones to the fight between Darrell Taylor and Trey Smith, there seems to be far too many issues to have faith in Jones.
Howard was also right to take a shot at the idea that he may be rebuilding and what he inherited because this team is his full list of recruits. By a coach’s fifth year, as he noted, it’s hard to sell that point.
The bye week may have now been a curse for Jones because he’s spent the whole time hearing mass criticism from everywhere. It seems the clock is ticking on his job unless Tennessee football can pull off the impossible and find a way to win out.
As we mentioned when listing the coaches that give Butch Jones hope, he’s not out yet. But it’s going to be very hard for him to win back the fan base.
