Point Guard

1. Anastasia Hayes

And we immediately start with a freshman. But she’s a pretty darn good one. Anastasia Hayes was the No. 3 ranked point guard nationally as a member of the 2017 Tennessee Lady Vols’ basketball recruiting class. At 5’7″, she is an in-state product that likely wants to immediately step up and do everything she can for the Lady Vols.

With the departures of Jordan Reynolds and Diamond DeShields, Warlick needs a distributor to step in and make an impact more than ever. At point guard, Reynolds was often far too inconsistent to begin with. So Hayes may provide an upgrade.

On top of that, although she’ll be a starter, she’s kind of a by-committee player here. That’s because of the other person at this position.

2. Meme Jackson

Meme Jackson saw action in all 32 games last year, even starting 19 of them and averaging over four and a half points a game. However, she spent most of that time on the wing. At 5’11”, the Tennessee Lady Vols need some help at point guard.

And Jackson can distribute when needed as well. She had 51 assists on the season last year when that wasn’t her primary goal. Everybody who finished ahead of her is now gone with one exception, and that person finished with just two more assists as a full-time starter. She also will start elsewhere.

As a smarter player, we project Jackson is the most logical choice to be the backup point guard and really start by-committee with Hayes. It’s the perfect mix of experience with talent.
