Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 6: Lady Vols move back up
Last week: Lost to Vanderbilt Commodores and Georgia Bulldogs
Last rank: 13th
The Ole Miss Rebels finally fell to having a losing record on the year. After a 9-1 start, they proved they were total pretenders who took advantage of an incredibly weak schedule once SEC play began. Now, they are 11-12 on the year and 1-9 in conference play.
But this week, the bottom really fell out. After losing to the Florida Gators two and a half weeks ago, Ole Miss loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores at home. Vandy has far and away the worst overall record in the SEC.
As a result, this team definitely belongs all the way at the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings. They have one conference win on the year, and it’s at home against Florida. With the Gators getting the best of them later in the year, that win is nullified.
Matt Insell looks like he’s about to take a step back in his sixth year as head coach of the Rebels, and it’s about time to question if he should be on the hot seat. This team has been bad, and he deserves some blame.
Currently, their RPI is No. 121, which is awful. And they have the No. 47 ranked strength of schedule. But they have three terrible losses to teams outside of the Top 100 of the RPI, and that is beyond unforgivable.
Going forward, it’s not getting any easier either. Ole Miss faces the Texas A&M Aggies on the road next. But they do get a struggling Alabama Crimson Tide team at home as well. So they have a shot at one win this week.
