Women’s SEC Power Rankings Feb. 13: Lady Vols continue rising
Last week: Defeated LSU Tigers and Vanderbilt Commodores
Last rank: 10th
How about those Auburn Tigers! Out of the blue, they were dead in the water, belonging with everybody else in the bottom tier of the conference. We openly said that their 10-3 start was a complete fluke due to an easy schedule and that conference play clearly woke them up.
Well, a week later, they stopped the hottest team in the league. Auburn upset the LSU Tigers, who had climbed up to No. 2 in our SEC Power Rankings. As a result, they did enough for us to bump them to No. 8 in our power rankings.
Terri Williams-Flourney’s team is now, still as a bottom-tier SEC team, flirting with the upper tier in the league. After all, despite just being 13-11, they showed they can actually beat the major teams in the conference. So we have to give them credit, and even if they struggled with the Vanderbilt Commodores after beating LSU, it’s still enough for us to say they’re the best of the bottom tier.
Now, to be fair ,the RPI tells a different story. After all, this team is No. 96 in that ranking. And we can attribute that, still, to their No. 58 ranked strength of schedule. However, they still have a quality win.
And maybe they’ll take advantage of a couple of other opportunities at such wins coming up. After all, they’re about to host the Missouri Tigers. With that game along with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels as future opponents, Auburn has a chance to win three of its final four. Hey, that’s a decent finish.
