Tennessee football head coach Jeremy Pruitt gave a taste of his coaching style after he was mic’d up in a Volunteers spring practice.

We’ve heard him in press conferences. We know about his track record of success everywhere he has been. But on Monday, Vol Nation got to see a bit of how Jeremy Pruitt would lead a team as the Tennessee football head coach.

The Vols released a video of Pruitt mic’d up running practice on their official Twitter page. It was your typical, cliche practice video, if we’re being honest. There are edited parts out of Pruitt coaching the players, and then there are parts of him speaking to the camera about coaching in general.

However, there were still some exciting moments. Pruitt showed intensity at times and was as energetic as anybody working with the players. Here’s the full video.

One thing that is different about this is its focus on Pruitt running practices. Usually, when these videos come out, you see the assistants running the practices. But this one was all about Pruitt, and it at least shows he’s going to be a hands-on head coach.

With his focus in his coaching history on defensive backs, it’s no surprise that the video showed him mostly working with that position. We knew that from spring reports that came out last week anyway, but the video gave us more insight into it. He still spent time with other positions as well and worked with both sides of the ball, so it’s not like he’s not going to be involved with everybody.

There was a bit of fundamentals coaching in there along with motivational speaking. And, as you could see, Pruitt called out Shawn Shamburger. So in a fashion similar to Rick Barnes, he doesn’t appear to be beyond targeting specific guys.

Given Butch Jones’s Champions of Life cliches, this is probably something the Tennessee football players need. How tough Pruitt is on the players remains to be seen, but what’s clear is that he is intense and has a lot of energy.
