Tennessee football offered scholarships to four skill players Wednesday night. The Volunteers looked at 2019 and 2020 prospects.

It was a heavy day of recruiting for Tennessee football on Wednesday. First, they offered a two-star Kansas running back. Then, the Vols scheduled another visit with a 2020 pro-style quarterback that they are pursuing.

And then came Wednesday night. The Vols offered scholarships to four different skill players at three different positions across two different classes. The star ratings ranged as well.

Tennessee football’s first offer was to another running back, Thomas Grayson. The 2019 prospect was the second running back the Vols offered that day after Breece Hall out of Kansas. And like Hall, Grayson is a two-star on Rivals. He announced the Vols’ offer on Twitter.

At 5’11” 190 pounds, Grayson comes from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla. He is also fielding offers from the Syracuse Orange, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Nebraska Cornhuskers. He’s demonstrated an ability to line up in the I-Formation and carry the ball in goal line situations while also running East to West out of the shotgun. That variety is valuable.

But Zykamren Robinson has higher ratings overall, and he’s the third running back of the 2019 class Tennessee football offered on Wednesday. Robinson, a three-star on Rivals, hails from Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, S.C. A 6’0″ 207-pound prospect, he also announced the Vols’ offer on Twitter.

Robinson is fielding offers from all over. He’s a bit of a power back but takes a lot of carries out of the shotgun. As a result, it’s hard to know just how great he could be at the next level, but with so many schools pursuing him, he clearly has potential. His vertical speed is impressive too, as he’s able to catch lots of passes out of the backfield playing receiver.

Outside of running back, the Vols also looked at cornerback. Tennessee football offered a scholarship to Jarrad Baker Jr. Baker, is listed as an athlete on Rivals and not yet rated on either site.

At 6’0″ 175 pounds, he comes from Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Fla. And he also announced the Vols’ offer on Twitter.

Baker has proven speed, as he showed an ability while playing receiver to outrun lots of defensive backs. Doing that in the Sunshine State counts for something. And he also looks like he could be a great return specialist. This is why he’s an athlete. So despite no rating, the potential is there.

Finally, though, we look ahead to 2020. Tennessee football jumped into the fray for an elite wide receiver in that class, Julian Fleming.

A 6’3″ 175-pound prospect from Southern Columbia High School in Catawissa, Pa. Fleming is a four-star on Rivals and already a five-star on 247Sports. He is fielding offers from all over the country as well and also announced the Vols’ offer on Twitter.

The Penn State Nittany Lions look like the clear favorite to land Fleming, but there’s nothing wrong with the Vols trying. And they have plenty of time to attempt to make up some ground with this elite prospect.

Overall, Tennessee football is still in the early stages of recruiting for the next two years. But it’s clear that they’re looking far and wide for anybody they can bring in. They are specific for what they want to fit their system, but they won’t run from targeting anybody to fit it. Wednesday night showed that.
