Tennessee football picked up its fourth commitment from a fourth different state for 2019 on Thursday. And once again, he was a player from a state that Jeremy Pruitt has connections to. This time, it was THE state.

That’s right. The Vols picked up a prospect from Alabama after getting Jackson Lowe out of Georgia last week. Defensive tackle Ledarrius Cox has become their next commitment.

Cox, a three-star on Rivals, comes from McGill Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala. He announced his commitment to the Vols Wednesday afternoon on Twitter.

At 6’4″ 310 pounds, Cox already has impressive size. He is ranked the No. 22 player overall at his position and the No. 12 player overall in the state of Alabama for 2019.

Other SEC schools that had offered him included the Texas A&M Aggies, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels. He also fielded offers from the Nebraska Cornhuskers and UCF Knights.

His size makes him a perfect fit for nose tackle in the 3-4 system that Pruitt and Kevin Sherrer are trying to install. He’s already used to playing in that system, which you can see in his highlight reel here.

In addition to his experience in the 3-4, you can see that Cox has lots of ability. He’s clearly impossible to block at the high school level, and he showed a bit of decent speed in running down players. Of course, his strength is a question playing at that level. It’s hard to judge if his talent will carry over into the SEC.

However, he is clearly a tackling machine who can rack up tons of sacks and tackles for losses. On top of that, he looks pretty solid at guessing the direction of running plays.

Simply put, Cox has a solid highlight reel. And Tennessee football appears to have gotten a very good pickup. Jeremy Pruitt is obviously going to want to beef things up in the trenches as much as possible, and Cox certainly does that.
