The 2018 NFL Draft begins on April 26th. Where are the best landing spots for former Tennessee Vols Trevor Daniel? Will we hear his name get called?

Tennessee football has had some recent success when it comes to the NFL Draft. Three quick mentions that are still in the short term memory banks of Vol fans are Josh Dobbs, Alvin Kamara, and Super Bowl Champion, Derek Barnett.

So now we turn out attention to the Vols that have entered the 2018 NFL Draft. Will they get drafted? If so, where are a couple of best landing spots for each player? This article, our attention is turned to the former punter Trevor Daniel.

The tradition of “Punter U” was held up on Daniel’s end. He was spectacular at Tennessee and helped keep the Vols in many games throughout his career.

He was outstanding at flipping the field and did it in critical parts of the game. But, sometimes that huge leg out he’s got the Vols into trouble because he outkicked his coverage on multiple occasions.

On two occurrences, Daniel outkicked his coverage and the recieving team returned the punt for a touchdown. Now, it is not fair to pin all the blame on Daniel, after all, it was a booming kick and the kick coverage was probably not great, let’s be honest.

After walking on and red-shirting in the 2013 season, Daniel got his opportunity and made the most of it. He placed nearly 50 percent of his punts in the 20-yard line and forced 15 fair catches.

Now, his focus is on the NFL Draft but getting drafted as a punter is tricky. It happens but not as usual was one would think since punter is indeed an important part of a football team.

However, Daniel is good enough to have a chance in a training camp. Plus he had a great combine which turned some scouts heads. Daniel was clocked in under a five-second 40-yard dash and benched 23 reps on the bench press. We made a joke on the AFT Show that Daniel must have thought he was trying out for defensive end.

It will be interesting if Daniel can get drafted. One thing is for sure, he will have a chance to prove himself and if he can punt anywhere close to how he did at Tennessee, Daniel will be on the field for the start of the 2018 NFL season.
