After showing a ton of aggression on the recruiting trail for the 2019 class, Tennessee football got big news for its 2020 class on Friday. South Carolina wide receiver Antonio Barber committed to the Vols.

Barber, who is still unrated on Rivals, comes from Rock Hill High School in Rock Hill, S.C. A 6’2″ 185-pound receiver, he’s listed as an athlete on Rivals. But other services explicitly state he’s a receiver, which is why we’re going with that.

Barber already had six offers and was also in some talks with the Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, North Carolina Tar Heels and South Carolina Gamecocks. He announced his commitment to the Vols on Twitter.

Tennessee football has a history with players from Rock Hill. Most recently, quarterback Justin Worley came from there. But it’s also where Cordarrelle Patterson and Jonathan Hefney hail from. So it’s had a decent pipeline across multiple coaches on Rocky Top.

Barber just adds to that pipeline. He joins four-star athlete Kristian Story of Lanett, Ala. as the only two members of Tennessee football’s 2020 recruiting class. Here’s a look at his highlight reel so far.

As you can see, Barber already has great leaping ability, he has the speed to outrun defensive backs, and he’s not afraid to go over the middle to catch balls. Many of the passes were underthrown to him in that highlight reel, but he still managed to come down with some.

Simply put, this is a very good player for the Vols to get. Although his star rating hasn’t come in yet, it’ll probably be a good one. Vols fans have every reason in the world to be excited about this commitment, and it shows what Jeremy Pruitt is doing on the recruiting trail.

However, going forward, it’s getting more crucial to focus heavily on 2019. The Vols only have four commitments for the class, and after this past recruiting season, they need to make as much of a splash as possible. So Pruitt and his staff still have a ton of work to do.
