A week after reports surfaced of Tennessee football struggling on the recruiting trail, the Vols secured two commitments for 2019. Their biggest score was Wednesday afternoon when Georgia wide receiver Ramel Keyton announced his plans to attend UT.

Keyton, a four-star wide receiver on Rivals, hails from Marietta High School in Marietta, Ga. and fielded offers from all over the country. Listed at 6’2″ 180 pounds, Keyton is ranked the No. 231 player nationally, the No. 35 wide receiver overall and the No. 26 player in the state of Georgia.

According to Rivals analysis of Keyton, he is more of a wideout than an inside guy and could likely get above 6’3″ and to 200 pounds before he hits college. Although he’s not known for elite speed, he’s a size mismatch for most corners.

Simply put, the Vols appeared to target Keyton for his abilities in the vertical passing game. Here is a look at his highlight reel.

As you can see, he is great at staying with the ball while it’s in the air. And he can win jump balls, going up to grab many of them. His hands are amazing and could make him an even bigger mismatch if he gets taller and gains weight. As the Rivals analysis noted, his speed is not amazing, but it’s where it needs to be.

With Keyton, Tennessee football now has seven commitments for its 2019 recruiting class, including three four-stars. He’s also the second player in a matter of days from Georgia to commit to the Vols, following three-star tight end Sean Brown. Four of the Vols’ seven commitments are now from Georgia.

Tennessee football has also secured three commitments for the month of May. Four-star offensive lineman Wanya Morris committed to the Vols on the first day of the month. And yes, he is from the state of Georgia as well.
