Jarrett Guarantano was the latest Tennessee quarterback to spend time with the Manning’s at the Manning Passing Academy. How much can it help him?

One of the best and coolest things a college quarterback can do it attend the Manning Passing Academy. The latest Tennessee football quarterback that had that unique opportunity is Jarrett Guarantano.

Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks of all time. So, the time spent learning from him is invaluable to a college kid looking to make it big in the pros one day. Just look at former Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs.

Dobbs took part in the Manning Passing Academy after his junior season. And, now he continues to go back every single year. The Passing Academy isn’t focused on the college kids so to speak; they are there to help the high school quarterbacks.

However, just being around both Manning’s and other great college quarterbacks, Guarantano should learn a few things to make him a better quarterback next season.

There is no question that Guarantano can improve and can always learn things from the Mannings but his season last year wasn’t horrible.

We all know about the horrendous offensive line play and the lack of separation the receivers would get. And, sure some of the lousy offensive plays might have been on Guarantano. However, most weren’t.

Guarantano finished the season 86-for-139 for 997 passing yards and a 4:2 touchdown to interception ratio. Again, those numbers aren’t fabulous but considering the lack of coaching and struggling offense; they aren’t that bad.

After Dobbs took part in the Manning Passing Academy, he threw for 700 more yards and 14 more touchdowns his senior season. Now, all the success can’t go to the Mannings, but it undoubtedly was a big help.

It is not a foregone conclusion that Guarantano will be the starting quarterback next season. In fact, the starting position is up in the air. He will have to prove to Jeremy Pruitt that he is the man for the job.

However, I do know that spending time with Peyton Manning can only help a quarterback. If Guarantano can improve the way Josh Dobbs did, then Tennessee will have one heck of a quarterback for the next couple of years.
