Tennessee football extended more offers during the recruiting dead period. The Volunteers have offered three-star safety Cameron Williams out of California.

Even in the dead period, Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee football remain as aggressive as possible on the recruiting trail. That continued on Wednesday as the Vols went after another prospect for the 2019 class.

Pruitt and co. offered three-star safety Cameron Williams. Listed as an athlete on other services, notably 247Sports, Williams announced the Vols’ offer on Twitter.

Originally an Oregon Ducks commitment, Williams decommitted from the school earlier this month. The Vols then got in on the action to pursue the 6’0″ 165-pound prospect from Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Calif.

With Micah Abernathy and Todd Kelly Jr. both seniors and Nigel Warrior a junior this year, Tennessee football has to be serious on the recruiting trail to beef up their depth at safety. That makes a guy like Williams an important one to pursue, as they currently only have two defensive backs in the class, and one is an athlete who may actually play running back.

Right now, Williams is fielding offers from nearly 20 schools from all over the country. But the Vols are likely in play. Here’s a look at his highlight reel.

As you can see, he doubles as a quarterback in high school because of how athletic he is. With that versatility, he could potentially play running back in college as well. Williams is that elite with the ball in his hands, which will make him valuable on special teams.

And hey, with experience playing the quarterback position, the coaches could use him on trick passing plays as well. There’s a lot Tennessee football could do with a prospect like him.

In addition to Williams, the Vols have been looking toward the future this week as well. We covered them offering 2021 prospects Julien Simon and Theodore Knox. Well, they offered a scholarship to weakside defensive end Fadil Diggs as well.

A three-star on Rivals, Diggs announced the school’s offer on Twitter. At 6’6″ 229 pounds, Diggs already has good size to play the position. Coming from Wilson High School in Camden, N.J., Diggs is fielding interest from all over the country.

So what’s clear is that even in the dead period, Tennessee football is not relaxing. Pruitt and co. are going all out to get whomever they can, and they are looking far into the future in the process. But the real story here is what Williams can bring to the 2019 class.
