As promised we are keeping tabs on the journey of Jarnell Stokes in his quest to make an NBA roster again. Another game down and another impressive performance.

Before I started writing, I knew Tennessee fans were some of the best in the world. Now, I get to see it first hand, and it’s quite amazing. Vol fans want their former players to succeed in the professional ranks more any other fan base in the country, and there isn’t a close second.

Just look at players like Peyton Manning, Eric Berry, and Chris Lofton for example. They were terrific at Tennessee, and now fans still love them to this day. So, when I say fans are rooting hard for Jarnell Stokes to make an NBA roster, it’s a tremendous understatement.

As promised we are going to keeps tabs on his NBA Summer League games. There might not be a post for every game. Actually, there won’t be a post for every game. However, we at least wanted to cover his last game against the Lakers and make a point that Stokes deserves more minutes.

After a first outing against the Cavaliers where he played 11 minutes off the bench and scored a total of eight points as he shot a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field. He had an equally impressive game against the Lakers.

Despite only playing 10 minutes again, Stokes added seven points on 3-of-6 shooting and grabbed five rebounds. He also had one assist and one block. And, surprisingly enough, Stokes drained a three-point shot.

Now, to be honest with you all, I haven’t been glued to the games. However, it is about time Stokes gets more minutes. He is averaging the fourth most points on the team (7.5) while only playing 11 minutes a game.

Just for comparison purposes. Chandler Hutchinson is playing 32.5 minutes a game and only averaging 10 points a game on 33 percent shooting. Even in 22 fewer minutes, Stokes is shooting 70 percent and averaging just 2.5 points less per game.

It’s time for the former Vol to get more action to prove that he deserves to be in the league. As always, we will keep an eye on Stokes progression and see if he can finally grab more minutes.
