Vols should take a look into giving former Alabama linebacker VanDarius Cowan a second chance.

The former four-star linebacker in the 2017 class, VanDarius Cowan is no longer a part of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program. He was dismissed earlier this week due to a violation of team rules.

Cowan was also arrested and charged with third-degree assault following an incident last month at a bar in Tuscaloosa. Oh, and there are the academic problems.

However, why should Tennessee football not take a chance on Cowan? It’s quite honestly the perfect situation in many ways.

1. Jeremy Pruitt came from Alabama too

We all know that first-year head coach used to be the defensive coordinator at Alabama. But, did you know Pruitt was the coach that recruited Cowan to Alabama? Maybe, Cowan is acting up because Pruitt is gone?

Maybe just maybe he misses Pruitt and wants to play for him again? If the two have a good relationship, the Vols should give Cowan a second chance.

2. Jauan Jennings…

If Jauan Jennings is going to get another chance than doesn’t it make sense for Cowan to get one too? Now, I’m not comparing the two situations because Jennings never got arrested.

However, he did do something that was extremely detrimental for the overall health of the football team. Maybe I will end up being wrong, but my best bet is we will see number 15 on the field this fall so why not Cowan?

3. Pruitt can set the tone for his program

Let’s say that Pruitt does attempt to add VanDarius Cowan to the football team. And, let’s say he doesn’t work out. Pruitt would have the perfect opportunity to show that he isn’t playing games with players that aren’t buying into his program.

However, for now, Tennessee should get all the talent they can to try to turn the program around. And, adding Cowan would be a step in the right direction.

Although his stats from his freshman season aren’t great, he still was a four-star that Nick Saban wanted. The Vols should give him a chance, and if it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work.
