Tennessee Vols top 10 moments in athletics for 2018-2019 academic year
9. Men’s golf ties a school record with three tournaments
As we said in the opening slide, milestones count when it comes to this list. And tying a school record for accomplishments certainly counts as a milestone. That’s what the Tennessee Vols men’s golf team did with three tournament wins.
UT came in first in their first two tournaments of the year, and they actually dominated both of them. In the Carpet Capitol Collegiate Challenge hosted by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, they finished all three days in first place despite being tied for first on the second day.
Two and a half weeks later, in the Inverness Intercollegiate tournament, they were in first place both days. So yes, that signals dominance, especially after finishing the first tournament by shooting 21-under par.
Then came The Hayt hosted by the University of North Florida. In that one, the Tennessee Vols had a dramatic final day. They finished the first day in seventh place and shot up to first place on the next day to win. They shot 11-over par to finish that tournament.
Tennessee came in sixth place at the NCAA Regionals in Athens and did not make it further. But making regionals was an accomplishment on its own. And tying a school record counts as a great moment, one worthy of making this list. Overall, this was a good season for men’s golf, and that third tournament win, which was achieved in dramatic fashion, played a huge role in that.
