Oklahoma Sooners over Baylor Bears (Oklahoma -9)

Saturday, Dec. 7 at Noon ET; ABC; AT&T Stadium; Arlington, Texas

Since the Oklahoma Sooners are No. 6 and the Baylor Bears are No. 7, Tennessee football is not likely to benefit too much from either team winning this game. However, if one of them is going to drop below the Alabama Crimson Tide, who are are No. 12 and don’t play this week, it will be the Baylor Bears. They just need to lose to a team that already beat them earlier in the year.

Yes, we have Oklahoma beating them on our list of things that could help the Vols. Remember, the key for UT is to have five SEC teams get in, and with the LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers all ranked where they need to be at the moment, Alabama just needs that final bump.

Should Baylor lose to Oklahoma, they will still have a 45-27 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. But they will have no other quality wins on their resume. And there’s a chance Oklahoma blows them out, making them really look like they don’t belong. In the process, they could sink below Alabama.

Again, the committee is not too likely to punish teams heavily for what they do in championship games, but this is something that could move the needle. As a result, Vol fans should root for Oklahoma. The Sooners will not drop below the Tide, win or lose. Baylor could.
