5. Nobody flipped or decommitted from Rocky Top, in particular Jimmy Calloway.

They did not sign two of their commitments, offensive lineman Kyree Miller of Mesquite, Texas and in-state athlete Darion Williamson of Brownsville, Tenn. However, those two things were expected to happen.

Meanwhile, Tennessee football did not lose any recruits to decommitments, including these two players. On top of that, they managed to sign everybody else, including their new commitments. That made for a great day in terms of holding onto their talent.

Most notably, four-star wide receiver commitment Jimmy Calloway was being targeted by the Florida Gators and Kentucky Wildcats. The 5’11” 165-pound Morrow, Ga. prospect could have easily either chosen not to sign, keeping his commitment open, or flipped his commitment to one of those other schools during the day. That would have made for disaster.

Instead, Florida had the disastrous day, which is worthy of another story, and UT held onto Calloway, keeping in tune with the elite speedy athletes heading to Rocky Top this year. There’s no way to overstate how big of a deal that was, and it was just one of many signs that things worked out for Jeremy Pruitt on this day.

No other players decommitting was a big deal as well. A couple of guys could always be vulnerable. But Rocky Top held firm and made sure all their key guys signed. In fact, Miller and Williamson are both three-star recruits, so if they weren’t going to sign a couple of guys, these are two of the ones they could live with not signing.
