9. 2015-16 Outback Bowl vs. No. 12 Northwestern Wildcats

Evan Berry 100-yard interception return for a touchdown

Tennessee Volunteers win 45-6

He made a career on Rocky Top out of kickoff returns for touchdowns, including three in 2015 and one in 2016. But the most famous play of Evan Berry’s career with Tennessee football was one that resembled something his brother would do, which is return an interception the other way for a long touchdown run.

Like the Derek Barnett sack, this wasn’t a play that altered the outcome of the game. UT was up 38-6 at the time over the Northwestern Wildcats. However, impressive plays against ranked teams also count, and this had that. UT needed a convincing blowout to secure a top 25 ranking in the Outback Bowl at 8-4.

With their big lead, Berry made sure they did just that. Northwestern was driving and could have made it a three-score game with a late touchdown. But Berry caught a tipped pass for an interception, and then he used his kickoff return skills to take it 100 yards the other way for a touchdown to put the Vols up 45-6.

Whenever you have a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, you belong in the history books. That’s an impressive play alone, and the fact that it came against a ranked team in a bowl game means it earned a spot on this list. Berry had five touchdowns in his career with Rocky Top as a defensive player, and this was one of them.
