4. Ger-Cari Caldwell

Wide Receiver; 6’4″ 193 pounds

Rock Hill, S.C.; Northwestern High School

Sticking with players the Vols are competing with the South Carolina Gamecocks to land, it’s clear that Jeremy Pruitt wants to add another big wideout to this class. Given the fact that Tennessee football lost Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway this past year, it makes sense for them to try to go after some of those guys.

A bit of an outside shot, Ger-Cari Caldwell did visit UT two Fridays ago, so he has had some interest. A three-star on Rivals, Caldwell’s 6’4″ frame obviously makes him a perfect wideout candidate in Jim Chaney’s system, and he would be a great addition to a class that clearly needs more size among its receivers.

Pruitt already secured one receiver from South Carolina in this class, as four-star Jalin Hyatt comes out of Irmo, S.C. But there’s always a need for more, and he has been making that clear over the past few weeks with his targets. Luring Caldwell out of South Carolina from the same town Jonathan Hefney and Cordarrelle Patterson came from would be amazing.

However, he isn’t much higher on this list than ZaQuandre White. That’s because the Gamecocks are an overwhelming favorite to land this guy as well, and despite him being a four-year player, he is only a three-star. With those two facts, it’s hard to suggest that Pruitt put all his efforts into this guy. There are more gettable players to target, and we go to them next.
