3. Zachary Evans won’t openly commit to anybody on Wednesday.

This is the other reason we had that technicality with Dee Beckwith being the only open recruit to commit to Tennessee football. Malachi Wideman will flip from the Florida State Seminoles. Meanwhile, Zachary Evans will not commit to anybody on National Signing Day, even if he ends up landing with the Vols down the road. His recruitment is more wide open.

A five-star running back from Houston, the 6’0″ 215-pound Texas prospect initially signed to play with the Georgia Bulldogs but was released from his LOI in December with no restrictions. However, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, being released from an LOI makes him ineligible to sign with a team on Wednesday.

As a result, Evans has more time than others to think about his decision. That means he will take that time, and he won’t sign with anybody. There is a chance he could openly commit on Wednesday, but with the extra time, it would not make sense for him to do that. He should obviously weigh all his options before going anywhere.

Georgia is still in the running to land this guy. However, Jeremy Pruitt gave the Vols a huge advantage by hiring Jay Graham, who had been recruiting Evans with the Texas A&M Aggies. Bringing in Graham after UT was making a push for him already and impressed him with a visit gives them an advantage. It just won’t show on Wednesday. So the Vols will have to wait on him.
