Top elite prospects part 1

Note: These are elite prospects who have the Vols among their finalists for schools they are planning to commit to. UT should be pursuing them as much as possible, even if recruiting services predict they will land elsewhere.

Nyland Green

  • Ratings: Four-star (Unanimous)
  • Size: 6’1″ 176 pounds
  • Hometown: Covington, Ga.
  • High School: Newton

When you talk about going for size at cornerback, Nyland Green fits the mold. He is 6’1″ and has clocked in a 4.46 40-time, making him a complete player at the position. As a result, the Vols should pursue him heavily.

Currently, Tennessee football is in the Georgia prospect’s top five. However, the Clemson Tigers are the unanimous favorite on the Rivals Future Cast and the 247Sports Crystal Ball, so the Vols have an uphill battle to climb land him. Still, they are definitely in the mix.

Isaiah Johnson

  • Ratings: Four-star (Unanimous)
  • Size: 6’1″ 174 pounds
  • Hometown: Bluefield, W. Va.
  • High School: Bluefield

With two solid offensive linemen from West Virginia, the Vols could be establishing a pipeline there. Isaiah Johnson, another tall cornerback, is another elite combination of size and speed. He actually has clocked in a 4.4 40-time, so he’s a guy the Vols should pursue heavily.

Currently, Johnson has the Vols in his top eight. While the LSU Tigers are the unanimous favorite to land him on the Rivals Future Cast, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, so his recruitment is very much in the air. UT should definitely be in play.
