Projected backups

Jimmy Calloway; Freshman; 5’11” 165 pounds; Morrow, Ga.

The second elite receiver committed to the 2020 class, Jimmy Calloway could definitely compete for the slot position given how open it is. However, it’s also pretty deep, so there’s a chance he takes a redshirt as well.

Jalin Hyatt; Freshman; 6’2″ 170 pounds; Irmo, S.C.

Coming out of Dutch Fork High School in South Carolina, Jalin Hyatt was the third elite receiver committed to UT in 2020. He could compete for a wideout role as a rotational backup or, against all odds, as a starter. But if he doesn’t, he can still redshirt and have a great future.

Miles Jones; Redshirt sophomore; 5’8″ 172 pounds; Miramar, Fla.

Another product of American Heritage High School in Florida, and another transfer, Miles Jones joins Tennessee football from the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In two years there, he only had one receptions. But he was once a four-star recruit as a speedy gadget back. He’ll likely take a transfer redshirt this year and be ready to step into that role next year.

Dee Beckwith; Freshman; 6’5″ 215 pounds; Florence, Ala.

If not for the fact that he is more of an athlete who needs to develop, Dee Beckwith would be in line for a starting job immediately given his size. The need to develop, though, is why the product of Florence High School in Alabama is likely to redshirt, but his potential is through the roof.

Isaiah Montgomery; Sophomore; 6’1″ 211 pounds; Atlanta, Ga.

After walking on to the program last year, the Tri-Cities High School product earned a scholarship at the end of the year. Isaiah Montgomery appeared in two games, but earning a scholarships suggests he could be an overachiever. Simply put, he’s clearly a backup, but he could play.
