Tennessee football: Ranking all eight former Vols on active NFL Playoff rosters
1st year in NFL
Joining the ranks of undrafted former Tennessee football players to see success in the NFL, Marquez Callaway is already proving to have a bright future. Given Sean Payton’s system and the way Drew Brees spreads the ball around the field, don’t be surprised if he sees a few touches throughout this year’s playoffs.
The 6’2″ 204-pound rookie has appeared in 11 games this year and even started in three of them, coming away with 21 catches for 213 yards, returning 11 punts for 122 yards and returning four kickoffs for 94 yards. Just like with the Vols, coaches are looking for ways to put the ball in his hands at this level.
One of Callaway’s best games was just last week, when he had three receptions for 51 yards against the Carolina Panthers. As a result, he’s peaking just in time for New Orleans’ playoff run as they get set to host the Chicago Bears Sunday.
There’s a reason Emmanuel Sanders recently had high praise for Callaway. New Orleans’ last and only Super Bowl championship came with Robert Meachem on the roster. Could Callaway be a new Saints receiver to help deliver them another one? If he does, he’ll have help.
