Tennessee football: Week 3 SEC and top 25 picks and bets
Well, if you took our moneyline picks and our picks against the spread last week, you made bank. We were epic on both. However, we got killed on the over/under. This is exactly how we got Tennessee football and the Pittsburgh Panthers. Pitt covered and won, as we picked, but the game hit the over, which we didn’t pick. Here is a recap of how we did in our Week 2 predictions.
Record for Week 2 predictions straight-up: 13-2
Rest of gambling record: 12-10
Against the spread: 8-3
Over/Under: 4-7
The only miss was the biggest game, to be fair, the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes. This post had Ohio State not only winning but covering. This week, we’ve got another 13 games, but before going further, here’s a look at our overall performance so far.
Record for overall 2021 predictions straight-up: 27-5
Rest of gambling record: 28-23-1
Against the spread: 15-11
Over/Under: 13-12-1
Three teams play FCS teams. There are 12 SEC games in total, including two conference games. We also have three games with two top 25 teams, one an SEC game, one an SEC vs. Big Ten game and one a non-SEC game altogether. As usual, will pick the games in the order they are scheduled and finish with Tennessee football. Here are our Week 3 SEC and top 25 picks and bets.
Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at Missouri Tigers (ESPN+/SECN+)
Saturday, Sept. 18 at Noon ET; Faurot Field; Columbia, Mo.
Our first game to call this week is a forgettable one. Eliah Drinkwitz’s Missouri Tigers put up a fight last week against the Kentucky Wildcats but suffered a heartbreaking conference-opener. Now, at 1-1, they have a chance to get back above .500 with Southeast Missouri State coming to town.
The Redhawks are 0-2 in FCS play, but don’t be fooled. They have faced the top-rated and No. 7 ranked teams at that level, teams that could beat lots of FBS teams. As a result, while Mizzou should win, they have to be careful.
Prediction
There’s not a lot of shame in losing to Kentucky given where Missouri is as a program right now. Like Tennessee football, though, they have to rebound against an FCS school this week. They still have lots to play for. SE Missouri State is still a bad team and has no defense, even with the good FCS losses, so Mizzou will fall out of bed and dominate this one, scoring at will.
Missouri: 59 Southeast Missouri State: 7
