Tennessee football rises by default in Week 3 SEC Power Rankings
Last week: Defeated New Mexico Lobos 34-0
Okay, now we look at the undefeated teams. Texas A&M has the least impressive resume of any of them outside of Kentucky. The reason for that is that their 10-7 win over the Colorado Buffaloes is by far the worst Power Five win of any 3-0 team in the league. Colorado is 1-2 and just lost 30-0 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Had Kentucky not struggled with Chattanooga, they would have been No. 5 on this list, and Jimbo Fisher’s team would have been No. 6. Rebounding to shut out the New Mexico Lobos was a good look, though, and A&M’s defense playing well is a great sign.
Of course, with a new quarterback, you can expect some growing pains for A&M, and that struggle with Colorado is a bit overrated since they probably weren’t used to the thin air. All signs point to them getting back on track the rest of the way. How on track this team is, though, will be on display pretty quickly.
A&M has to face a resurgent Arkansas Razorbacks program that they’ve owned since joining the SEC. In a year where they are thinking about the College Football Playoff, it’d be embarrassing for them to blow it by finally losing to the Hogs. Alabama is still on the slate too, but all the focus right now should be on Arkansas.
