It’s the Coach of the Year against the coach finally trying to take that final step in a battle of undefeated teams to be in the driver’s seat of the Big Ten East race at Spartan Stadium this weekend. The Michigan Wolverines are undefeated and No. 6 in both polls, and the Michigan State Spartans are undefeated and No. 7 in both polls.

Could Jim Harbaugh finally get over the hump with Michigan? The talk has always been about the Ohio State Buckeyes, but now he has to deal with MSU. This is his first chance at a quality win. Michigan has been alternating weekly between surviving a scare and then dominating an opponent, but it’s been about defense and running all year.

On the other side, Michigan State is one of many schools with a coach Tennessee football could have hired. Mel Tucker is the coach of the year, easily. The Spartans win with a more balanced attack, and their strength is their rush defense. Michigan’s rush offense will be its biggest test.

Prediction

Michigan is a deceptively good passing team, averaging eight yards an attempt. Their defense is elite all the way around. As a result, they’ll score more than expected in this game, torching MSU through the air. That’ll actually result in a pretty comfortable win for them, so they’ll cover. The game hits the under, though, because MSU won’t move the ball at all.
