 3. Kentucky -115 first half moneyline

Okay, now it’s getting a little crazy. Tennessee football is the team to take on the moneyline. Why then, is Kentucky the team to take in the first half? Well, it’s based on how each team plays the first and second quarters.

Both the Vols and Kentucky are elite first quarter teams. UT outscores foes heavily in the first quarter, leading the nation in first quarter points at 15.7 points per game while holding foes to 4.3 points per game. Kentucky isn’t bad, though, scoring 8 points a quarter and holding foes to 3 points per game.

Then comes the second quarter. The Vols are awful there, scoring just 6.7 points and allowing 11.7 points a game. Kentucky, meanwhile, still outscores opponents 5.9 to 5.4 points per game. As a result, there’s enough evidence here to suggest the Wildcats will keep it close.

Now, this is banking on Rocky Top having a strong third quarter, which it has shown an ability to do. This is where Kentucky gets outscored on average. As a result, it’s where the Vols will take control to win a close one. Kentucky will lead at halftime and surrender the lead in the third quarter before UT holds on in the fourth, so take UK to lead at the end of the first half.
