Last week, the Auburn Tigers lost control of their own destiny in the SEC West and woke up to reality with a 20-3 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies. Now, Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel could be creeping up on Bryan Harsin as the best first-year coach on the league.

Still, Auburn isn’t out of the divisional race. If Texas A&M slips up somewhere, which is very possible, they can regain control. Ranked No. 17 in the College Football Playoff, No. 16 in the AP Poll and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll, this team has a lot to play for. However, they’ve got a dangerous foe heading to town Saturday.

Speaking of Tennessee football and coaches, Mike Leach has Mississippi State playing hard. They were a bad call from beating Arkansas last week and are two bad calls from being 7-2. Lots of things are still on the table for them, and on a week-to-week basis, they could beat anybody. An upset at Jordan-Hare Stadium isn’t crazy.

Prediction

This feels like that 6-6 season Leach had his second year with the Washington State Cougars, and with the Tennessee State Tigers still on MSU’s schedule to get them that sixth win, I’m going Auburn here. Both offenses have been inconsistent, and both defenses have proven themselves, so take the under. Auburn covers as well because MSU can’t kick field goals.

Auburn: 24 Mississippi State: 17 (Auburn -4; Under 50)
