Gambling odds according to WynnBET:

  • Line: Utah -2.5
  • Over/Under: 58
  • Moneyline: Utah -135; Oregon +115

Ironically, this isn’t the only Pac-12 game this weekend. The USC Trojans and Cal Golden Bears will face off in a Saturday night game that was rescheduled due to a COVID outbreak during the regular season, but that’s not a conference championship game, so we won’t pick it.

Just a couple weeks ago, the Utah Utes ended the Oregon Ducks College Football Playoff chances with a blowout win at home. Now, the two get to face off again in Nevada for the Pac-12 Championship, and it’s just with a New Years Six game on the line.

Utah comes in ranked No. 17 in the College Football Playoff and Coaches Polls and No. 14 in the AP Poll. Kyle Whittingham’s team is on a five-game winning streak and has won eight of the last nine. If not for the slow start, this could potentially be a CFP team.

Ranked No. 10 across the board, the Oregon Ducks have an outside shot at the CFP if chaos takes place on Saturday, but even if everything went perfect, it still probably wouldn’t happen. Still, Mario Cristobal’s team has a shot at a third straight conference championship, and that has to count for something.

Prediction

It’s hard to look past what happened a couple of weeks ago. Utah destroyed Oregon. However, that seems very similar to what the Auburn Tigers did to the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2017 regular season. Auburn won 40-17 but lost 28-7 three weeks later in the SEC title game. I’ve got that vibe here. Take Oregon in the upset, but both teams score enough to hit the over.

Oregon: 35 Utah: 34 (Oregon +2.5; Over 58)
