The only way you could pair a mediocre C-USA team against a much better Mountain West team is if the C-USA team had somewhat of a home field advantage. Having this game be at the PUBG Mobile New Mexico Bowl with the UTEP Miners as the C-USA team allows that to happen.

UTEP is not far from this bowl game, so fans will be able to travel. It took four seasons, but the patience around Dana Dimel’s rebuild has paid off. This is UTEP’s first bowl since 2014, and despite losing four of five to finish the season, they have a lot to be proud of. Tennessee football blew out UTEP 24-0 Dimel’s first season in 2018.

On the other side, the Fresno State Bulldogs flirted with the top 25 at times, They’re receiving five votes in the Coaches Poll, so they have a shot at 10 wins and an outside shot at a top 25 finish with this game under interim head coach Lee Marks, who takes over after Kalen DeBoer left for the Washington Huskies.

Prediction

DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb have left Fresno State. We also don’t know who starts at quarterback, as Jake Haener was expected to transfer as well, but it’s not clear if he’ll play in the bowl game. That leaves this completely up in the air. With all the distractions, I’m going with UTEP to cover but Fresno State to win. The over/under is a bit too low, so take the over as well.
