Lost AFC Championship

Who has a bigger need for a speedy receiver? Tyreek Hill is gone. The Kansas City Chiefs found great value in a former Tennessee football player last year when they stole Trey Smith in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Smith is now a fixture on the offensive line, and you have to think KC will look to Rocky Top again for some immediate talent.

Velus Jones Jr. is the perfect type of player in Andy Reid’s system. Reid loves to get the ball to elite athletes in open space, something he did way back in his Philadelphia Eagles days when he had Brian Westbrook as his running back. Jones is no Westbrook or Hill, but he’s a weapon.

The chance to play is one reason Kansas City is a great fit for Jones. It’s also a great fit for Jones because, if given the chance, you know he will thrive there. Reid and Eric Bieniemy will turn him into a superstar, and he’ll only look better with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball.

Now, Mecole Hardman takes away the chance for Jones to be a return specialist in Kansas City, but it doesn’t matter. The chance to fill Hill’s shoes and shine with elite offensive coaching and elite quarterback play still makes this a great landing spot for him. It’s also clear that KC looks at former Vols, so this is a great place for him.
