Lost AFC Divisional Round

Nelson Agholor would seem to play the role Velus Jones Jr. plays, but he’s only got one year left on his contract, and his production dipped off towards the end of last year. As a result, another speedy receiver with the ball in his hands could fill Agholor’s void, and Jones could be the perfect guy to play for Bill Belichick while catching passes for Mac Jones.

Before Agholor, New England once won a Super Bowl with former Tennessee football wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson. Add in Agholor coming from the USC Trojans, and New England has recent experience with two players of Jones’ profile who went to the two schools Jones attended.

With Josh McDaniels gone, the Pats may be looking for a fresh start on offense. Joe Judge is back as an offensive analyst and clashed with receivers in 2019, a big concern, but that doesn’t mean Jones wouldn’t get a fair shot playing in New England and trying to emerge as a go-to guy.

It’s pretty clear that New England will prioritize receivers throughout the draft, so they’ll likely be looking heavily at Jones, and if he goes there, he could get become an early contributor. Losing receiver and return specialist Gunner Olszewski to the Pittsburgh Steelers gives Jones an even better chance to make an early impact.
