Tennessee football makes another cut for 2023 Alabama OL Vysen Lang
Josh Heupel has been on a roll with skill players and defensive stars recently when it comes to the 2023 recruiting class for Tennessee football. However, he still has his eye on the trenches, and the Vols remain on the radar of a 2023 Alabama offensive lineman.
Nearly three months after making the top 10 for Vysen Lang, the Vols have now made his second cut, reaching the top six. A four-star on Rivals and three-star on 247Sports and On3 who is not yet rated on ESPN, Lang stands between 6’4″ and 6’5″ and weighs in the range of 315 to 335 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football on Lang’s list are the Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Texas Longhorns and Arkansas Razorbacks. The prospect out of Pike Road High School in Montgomery County, Ala., announced the schools Tuesday on Twitter.
Given his frame, Lang would seem to be an offensive tackle, and he is indeed listed as that on Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN. However, On3 has him as an interior offensive lineman, which seems to suggest versatility more than anything else.
That’s probably a bonus if he commits to Rocky Top because of the system Heupel runs. It’s based on the ground game but up-tempo, so size can be a bit more valuable with him than it is with other coaches who spread the field offensively.
Although Heupel has done well in the trenches the past two years, he could still use more talent up front, and he only has two commitments for 2023, so another player would be a huge boost. One of Lang’s caliber would be even bigger.
Currently, there are no favorites to land him on the Rivals Future Cast. However, Arkansas has the only two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, both with a medium confidence interval, and Auburn is the plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast and On3. Tennessee football is still in play, but it’ll take some work.
