Tennessee Baseball traveled to LSU this past weekend for a 3-game series against the No. 1 ranked Tigers.

The Volunteers struggled throughout the series but found their rhythm in the last game and avoided getting swept. Tennessee baseball showed many glimpses of greatness over the weekend. However, they are still a very young team with plenty to improve. There’s nothing to worry about, and it’s still pretty early in the season. Still, hopefully, they will be able to settle into their groove come playoff time.

Tennessee Baseball Weekend Recap

Game 1 – (9) Tennessee (20-7, 3-4 SEC) vs. (1) LSU (23-3, 5-2 SEC)

Recap: The Vols took an early lead in the fifth inning, but it was quickly taken away from them in the bottom of the fifth. It felt like the momentum was stripped from the Volunteers; however, they kept fighting and tied it up in the 8th inning, but the defense fell apart in the bottom of the 8th, giving up three runs. This game was close all game long and honestly a chess match between the two aces.

Final Score: 5-2 Tigers

Game 2 – (9) Tennessee (20-8, 3-5 SEC) vs. (1) LSU (24-3, 6-2 SEC)

Recap: The Vols’ offense looked pretty good in this game, but like game 1, every time they took the lead, LSU would fire right back and never let the Volunteers get comfortable. The Vols’ offense is destroying everyone, but it seems like their defense is struggling.

Final Score: 6-4 Tigers

Game 3 – (9) Tennessee (21-8, 4-5 SEC) vs. (1) LSU (24-4, 6-3 SEC)

Recap: Tennessee baseball came out firing in Sunday’s afternoon game and managed to avoid the sweep. The offense was on fire, and the Vols scored six runs in the first inning and four more in the second. They took care of business, and hopefully, this will be the momentum they need as they head into another tough matchup in their next series against Florida.
