Tennessee basketball is losing a key player as Julian Phillips enters the transfer portal, leaving fans wondering what the future holds for the Volunteers.

Tennessee basketball fans were dealt a blow when freshman Julian Phillips announced that he would be entering the transfer portal. The 6-foot-8-inch forward was a key player for the Volunteers last season, averaging 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. With Phillips leaving, many are left wondering what the future holds for Tennessee’s basketball program.

Julian Phillips has also entered the draft process and will have until May 31 to withdraw. If he decides to transfer to another school, he will have to do so before May 1 if he wants to stay within the SEC.

Auburn is currently the front-runner to pick up Phillips; however, If Phillips chooses to transfer to Auburn, he will have to sit out a year or get an NCAA waiver. Regardless of what he decides, fans will always remember his great contributions to Tennessee basketball.

With New Recruits on Board, Tennessee Basketball is Poised for Success After Julian Phillips’ Departure.

Despite the departure of Julian Phillips, Tennessee basketball fans have nothing to worry about. Head coach Rick Barnes has recently struck gold with three major transfers heading to Rocky Top next season. Jordan Gainey, who scored 15.2 points per game as a sophomore, and Chris Ledlum, who scored 18.8 points per game as a senior, are set to join the team and bring their impressive skills to the court.

With the new recruits on board, Tennessee basketball is looking stronger than ever before. The Vols also landed Northern Colorado SF Dalton Knecht, a top 15 prospect in the transfer portal who averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists last season. With these new additions, Tennessee basketball is poised to continue its success on the court.

With the addition of Jordan Gainey, Chris Ledlum, and Dalton Knecht, Tennessee basketball is looking stronger than ever before. Even with the departure of Julian Phillips, the Vols are poised to continue their success on the court.
