Week 2 AP Polls: Did Tennessee Football Move Up At All?

The polls following week 1 have just been released, and Tennessee Football has officially moved up following the victory over the Cavaliers. 

Normally, the poll is released every Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern Time unless a ranked team has yet to play. However, since the final game of Week 1 was last night between No. 9 Clemson and Duke, the poll was yet to be announced.

Now that week one has come to a close, let’s see just where the Volunteers ended up on the week 1 AP poll:

Did the Vols move up at all?

The victory over the Cavaliers helped the Vols move up, but more of it had to do with two top-10 teams losing on opening weekend. Both the Clemson Tigers (No. 9) and the LSU Tigers (No. 5) fell, which helped the Vols move up to No. 9 in the AP Polls.

Against UVA, The Volunteers started out the game strong, and three main factors went into the domination. The first of which was the Vols defense looking unstoppable. The Volunteers’ defense was a significant issue last year, and it’s what has been holding us back from being all-around unstoppable. The next was Joe Milton’s performance. The offense will have a ton of struggles, especially early in the season, which is expected. This is the first time the Vols have played someone other than themselves in months, so it will take some time before Joe and the rest of the offense find their stride…more

The final factor was the amazing display of Tennessee Football’s RB room. The Vols ran for almost 300 yards and five total touchdowns. Jaylen Wright led the charge and ran for 115 yards, Jabari Small had 67 yards, and Dylan Sampson had 52 yards…more
