Turning Points in 41-20 Win vs. South Carolina
No. 1: Tennessee Football’s Defense Steps Up Early
The Vols took the field on defense to start the game, forced a speedy 5-play drive, and quickly got Joe Milton and the offense onto the field. This opening drive helped build some momentum but, more importantly, kept South Carolina from gaining any momentum.
No. 2: Jaylen Wright’s 42 Yd TD Run
To open up the game for the Volunteers’ offense, Jaylen Wright took the ball 42 yards and put a whole new energy inside Neyland Stadium. This drive consisted of 9 plays 94 yards, and it looked like they were unstoppable.
No. 3: South Carolina Starts to Gain Momentum
Following the opening drive TD from the Vols, the Gamecocks answered back quickly. They first answered with a field goal, then picked off Joe Milton, then went right down and scored again. After these three things, the Vols found themselves in a hole down 10-7.
No. 4: Squirrel White’s Catch of the Year
Joe Milton connected with Squirrel White in one of the most incredible catches I’ve ever seen. It was a perfect pass down the field for 50 yards and a complete joke of a no-call by the refs. Check out the clip of the catch here.
No. 5: Tennessee Football Starts Second Half Off Strong
After going into halftime up 14 points, the Vols carried their momentum into the second half and went 12 plays, 75 yards, for a touchdown to get even more separation.
No. 6: Vols keep the momentum going in the fourth quarter and put the Gamecocks away
After stopping South Carolina to a field goal on the drive before, Tennessee Football answered with a 9-play, 75-yard touchdown to put the nail in the coffin officially. Dylan Sampson led the offense for most of this drive and ended it with a touchdown run. Sampson continues to be an absolute horse in the backfield, and it’s a good sign for future things for the Volunteers.
