4-star Tennessee commit provides concerning update after his Vols official visit

The Vols are hoping to hang on here.

Is he going to stay committed to the Tennessee football team or not? That's what plenty of Vols fans have in mind when it comes to tight end Carson Sneed. The in-state playmaker has been a UT pledge since early August, but he's the textbook definition of a 'soft verbal' for the staff.

Despite being committed, Sneed has taken several other official visits, including one to Florida on June 13. This past weekend, the 6-6, 250-pounder from Nashville was in Knoxville for his Tennessee OV. While the trip went well for him, Sneed didn't say he was locked in after leaving campus. If anything, he continues to leave the door open for a potential flip:

4-star TE Carson Sneed remains committed to Tennessee football for now

As you can see from that update from 247Sports' Ryan Callahan, Sneed has some 'thinking to do' now that his visits are wrapped up. Ole miss is another team to keep a close eye on, as Lane Kiffin and Co. clearly made an impact on him in late May during his trip to Oxford.

For now, Sneed remains a Tennessee pledge for Josh Heupel, but he hasn't given the Tennessee faithful much belief that he's going to sign with the program once December arrives. At this point, it feels like a wide open race and no one knows what Sneed's final call will be.

Throughout his recruitment, the in-state playmaker has picked up more than 40 offers, taking official visits to Tennessee, Ole Miss, North Carolina and Florida. Sneed is ranked the No. 14 TE in the country, No. 8 player from Tennessee and No. 275 prospect nationally for his class.

He's an elite prospect and the kind of guy that Tennessee fans can't wait to see in action for this team in '26. However, again, we don't know if he's going to be Knoxville-bound for sure or not. There are plenty of nervous UT supporters who are worried this kid will change his mind sooner rather than later. Only time will tell if this happens or not.
