As expected, there were tons of big-name recruits in Knoxville over the weekend, as the Tennessee Vols football team held its '865 Live' recruiting event. The long list of targets in town included 5-star EDGE Tristian Givens, who has been high on UT for a little while.
This wasn't the first time the touted pass-rusher has taken a visit to meet with Josh Heupel, but it's the last one for him before a return trip to campus for his official visit next month. Givens loved his time connecting with the staff and other recruits and he didn't hesitate in telling Go Vols 247's Ryan Callahan that the Vols are the 'top dogs' in terms of his recruitment. Whoa:
Tennessee is in a good spot with 5-star EDGE Tristian Givens
Obviously, this is exciting news for the Vols, as Heupel and his coaches have clearly made an impact on the youngster. As things stand, Givens doesn't have an exact date for when he'll be shutting things down, but he'll be getting a better idea of where he wants to play his college ball in the coming weeks.
The 6-3, 215-pounder has an official visit scheduled for Florida State on June 6. That trip will be followed by an OV with Tennessee on June 13 and another one with Texas A&M on June 20. He's also finalizing a trip to USC
Those four teams are expected to be the finalists for Givens, who is hoping to make his decision at some point this summer before he shifts his focus to his senior season. Throughout his recruitment, he has picked up more than 30 offers.
Givens is ranked five stars, the No. 7 EDGE in the country, No. 6 prospect from Georgia and the No. 62 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. Tennessee already holds two 5-star commits in Faizon Brandon and Gabriel Osenda. Will Givens become the third? It'd no question be an electric get for Heupel if he can get this one across the finish line.
