5-star RB all but confirmed to be down to Tennessee football and Michigan

This is a recruiting battle Josh Heupel needs to come out on top of.

And then there were two? That's certainly how things are starting to feel for a 5-star running back the Tennessee football team is hoping it will land later this month. Yup, running back Savion Hiter is all set to announce his college decision on Aug. 19.

Previously, Hiter revealed he was down to four finalists: Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia and Michigan. The latest intel from insider Steve Wiltfong appears to let everyone know that Hiter is deciding between Tennessee and Michigan. In the end, will the Vols be able to take down the Wolverines?

5-star RB Savion Hiter appears to be down to Tennessee football and Michigan

This is bad news for the Buckeyes and Bulldogs, but hey, it's great news for Michigan and Tennessee. Rumors have been flying that Michigan is in the lead here, but that Josh Heupel and Tennessee are doing everything they can to convince Hiter that Knoxville is where he belongs.

As we've written about before, 5-star quarterback Faizon Brandon is helping out with the recruiting efforts. The same can be said for Bryce Underwood and Michigan - Hiter is actually revealing his college decision on Underwood's birthday, which has some people convinced the Wolverines will be the pick.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Hiter is ranked five stars, the No. 1 running back in the country, No. 2 player from Virginia and No. 9 prospect nationally. Throughout his recruitment, the 5-11, 200-pounder has picked up 29 offers, but he's down to four schools.

However, we think it's safe to say he's officially down to two, with both Heupel and Sherrone Moore hoping for some good news in less than two weeks. From our chair, this still feels like a bit of a coin flip - it really could go either way. Hiter is considered a generational talent and there's a reason so many schools have been after him.

Tennessee's 2026 class already features 5-star commitments from Brandon, offensive tackle Gabriel Osenda and safety/wide receiver Salesi Moa. The Tennessee faithful would love nothing more than for Hiter to add his name to the list. Come Aug. 19, everyone will have their answer.
