It's safe to say that the Tennessee football team has been on a tear of late recruiting wise, but there's still plenty of work to do for Josh Heupel and Co. Obviously, one of the top targets left on the board for the Vols is no question 5-star running back Savion Hiter.
The speedster is ranked the No. 1 running back in the country and he's had high interest in playing at the next level in Knoxville for quite some time. However, Tennessee isn't the only program that he's giving a serious look to.
There's been recent buzz that this is a two-team battle between the Vols and Michigan. Unfortunately, it looks like Sherrone Moore and Co. may have the upper hand, as the latest intel from 247Sports is that Hiter is leaning towards playing in Ann Arbor once 2026 gets here:
According to 247Sports Georgia recruiting writer Benjamin Wolk, he believes 2026 five-star RB Savion Hiter will eventually commit to...the Michigan Wolverines: https://t.co/SkxGRqYPxc

Missing out on Savion Hiter would be a big blow for Tennessee football recruiting
In June, Hiter had a full schedule of official visits, including taking trips to Michigan and Tennessee. Both programs did an unreal job in selling all the positives of their programs to the youngster, but has Michigan jumped out in front?
That might be the case, but that doesn't mean that things are locked in for the Wolverines just yet. In early July, Hiter said that he's starting to shut down his process and that he's going to be revealing a commitment date soon.
Everyone is waiting for said date, obviously including the staff at Michigan and Tennessee. The Vols have been on fire recruiting wise, currently holding 21 known pledges - the Vols' 2026 group is ranked No. 13 in the country according to the 247Sports rankings.
Faizon Brandon is the headliner for '26, but he's not the only one who has a bright future with UT. The hope for a lot of people is that Hiter and Tristen Keys will join the superstar quarterback with the Vols down the road, but it's unknown how things will shape out there. For now, Tennessee fans are a little worried Hiter could be headed elsewhere, but there's still time for Heupel to make up some ground.
